New Church Family - An Affirming Church

NEW CHURCH FAMILY is a nondenominational faith community that has been conducting Christian ministry for everyone and a special outreach to the gay-lesbian-transgender-bisexual community in the Daytona area since 1986. Our modern, spacious building on US 92 also serves as a GLBT community center, hosting various secular events such as dance parties, films, support groups and workshops. We also are happy to share our space with anyone  -- gay or straight -- desiring a Christian wedding, Holy Union, baptism, funeral or memorial service.

BRIEF HISTORY – The congregation formerly known as Hope Metropolitan Community Church met Feb. 3, 2008 to re-establish itself as New Church Family in leased space on Beville Road, South Daytona. We incorporated as a Florida non-profit and hold 501-3-c tax-exempt status. Later in 2008,  the congregation voted to join International Christian Community Churches, based in Asheville, N.C., but later voluntarily exited the denomination in August 2014. The church has been independent since that point.

In August 2012, after a two-year property search, the church purchased the 4100-square-foot headquarters of the Volusia Building Industry Association for $287,500, using investments from its Building Fund. The purchase of the property at 3520 W. International Speedway western Daytona Beach gave us a central location, close to three major highways. It tripled the space of the church, giving it a meeting hall for 100 people, plus 2 offices, boardroom, library, full kitchen, lobby and reception area. It is available for rental by other ministries, outside groups and for weddings, reunions and parties  — inquire at 386-527-5952.

PASTOR -- Our post is vacant and we are temporarily using guest speakers to lead our worship services. Our previous pastor, Rev. William K. Dunlap, a gay pastor in the United Church of Christ, began guest-preaching at New Church Family in 2020 and later agreed to continue as interim pastor. On Aug. 17, 2020, he was called as our 10th pastor by a meeting of the Congregation but resigned in January 2021.  A former pastor, Rev Donna Choate,  returned to our pulpit for a year as interim pastor while we launched a new pastoral seach. Rev . Donna had retired in 2020 after four years of service.  Earlier pastors were, in order, Revs. Jean Levy, Ted Morgan, Bob Finch, Steve Steele, Lee Carlton, Jim Lynch, B.J. "Beau" McDaniels and Susan B. Roth.  Rev. Ruth Jensen-Forbell served as an interim pastor for a year after Rev. Carlton's term.

BOARD -- As of February 2022, the the board of directors of NCF consists of Teresa Wright,  president; Sharron Mitchell, vice president; Dave McBride  treasurer; and Bonnie Frazee, member at large. The late Jerry Corlis, with 36 years of church membership, served as a non-voting honorary board member until his death in April 2020. We continue to honor him as a member emeritus, and the board's conference room has been named in his memory..
